Hope you stay safe and healthy. In the past month, we saw too many extreme weather events amid climate change, including the severe flooding in Henan province, and typhoon In-Fa as double blow in coastal regions. COVID-19 is also recurring in lots of cities at the same time. As an insurer with social responsibilities, it is more urgent than ever for us all to unite and react quickly to these challenges, to safeguard our employees, customers, and broader communities.

There have been many heartbreaking and sleepless nights for all of us. And first, please keep alert on the notices from our Communications, HR and Security teams, official broadcasts on weather changes and COVID-19 updates. Please rest assured that we have your back anytime you need help from headquarter.

We stay true to our commitment of “Acting for human progress by protecting what matters” and we treasure the health and safety of every staff and take social responsibility seriously. Immediate rescue and relief measures have been rolled out since the crisis breakout. You will find how we act systematically as One AXA to rise to the situation. Among other things, we’ve gained progress in business transformation and brand building with industry recognitions in health and innovation.

A Bowl of Fish Soup

最近我到一个朋友家做客,共进晚餐。她花了很多心思烹制了很棒的鱼汤,但她小学三年级的女儿却说不喜欢喝。她的妈妈用尽各种方法劝她,比如这个汤多么有营养啦,自己花了多少时间和心思做啦,可女儿就是不肯。我就问小女孩,是不是不喜欢喝汤。女孩说她喜欢喝番茄鸡蛋汤,妈妈烧的鱼汤有腥味,所以不喜欢。我就跟她说,我也喜欢喝番茄鸡蛋汤,因为这是普通人都能够接受的大众味道;但是妈妈烧的这个鱼汤有点高级,并不是每个人都有机会喝到,更无法体会到它的特别。我问她想不想做一个比较特别的人,如果是的话,不妨尝尝,感受一下它跟普通汤的不同。结果,小女孩主动去盛了一碗汤喝。

这件事给我的心得就是,无论教育孩子还是在工作、生活上需要说服别人时,就事论事的摆事实、讲道理不一定能解决问题,达成目的。人是情感动物,底层逻辑是情绪而非理智。多一些理解和尊重,站在对方的角度来思考就很重要。用心了解对方心里的真实需求,因材施教、对症下药,才能够达到事半功倍的效果。

I was invited to have dinner at one friend’s recently, who has put a lot of time into making this very delicious fish soup. Her daughter of third grade in primary school, however, was not a big fan of it, and turned her mother down repeatedly, in spite of her mother several trials her to persuade her by telling her that it was of good nutrition and that she has spent a good amount of time making it. I therefore asked her daughter if she disliked soup in general. She replied and said that she preferred soup of tomato and eggs because the fish soup had a peculiar taste. I told her that I myself like the soup of tomato and eggs too, but the fish soup made by her mother is really one of a kind that normally people would not get the chance to taste its special flavor. I then encouraged her to be the special person that gets to grab a spoon, and the result is, she did.

My lesson learned out of this experience is that, when it comes to educating children, or convincing others, putting facts and reasoning on the table may not be the best solution to achieve the goal. We human beings are living creatures with emotions, and thus the underlying logic should be emotions rather than rationality. It is therefore important to think from the other people’s perspective and walk in their shoes. Only when we understand their true needs and provide what is truly needed, can we attain the objective with half the effort.

从6月28日起,“安盛自信一家人”系列广告片在全国各大城市陆续上线,并在包括上海虹桥国际机场大屏、楼宇电梯、地铁站点、公交候车亭、和电影院线等多重媒介终端亮相。作为“守护热爱,自信前行”安盛全新品牌主张传播活动的一部分,通过演绎健康保障给家庭带来勇敢自信,为前线同仁展业助力赋能,为“鲲鹏万里”战略转型目标的达成贡献力量。

“如果你想造一艘船,先不要雇人收集木头,也不要给人分配任务,而是激发他们对海洋的渴望。”——正如《小王子》作者埃克苏佩里所说,希望“安盛自信一家人”系列广告能够唤起中国家庭对健康保障的重视,通过保障收获自信,从容地迎接未知挑战。

在此我也号召全国各地的安盛小伙伴们,用手机拍摄你们与这一家“自信家庭”的合影,这同样是全球边走边聊(Walk & Talk)活动的一部分。我已经收到了一些同事的视频作品,期待更多伙伴加入到边走边聊的行列中来,与“安盛自信一家人”同框,讲述自信带来的幸福能量。

The Confident AXA Family commercials have been rolled out in major cities since June 28, and have been displayed on Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport’s screen, building elevators, subway stations, bus shelters, Movie Theater and other media terminals, aiming to raise people’s awareness in AXA’s brand proposition of confidence and support frontline business development so as to help drive the Soar to Success program. 

“If you want to build a ship, don’t drum up the men to gather wood, divide the work or give orders. Instead, teach them to yearn for the vast and endless sea”, said Antoine de Saint-Exupery, the author of Little Prince. The Confident AXA Family commercials are expected to encourage Chinese families to address the importance of the need for health protection to cope with any unexpected challenges with confidence.

I therefore encourage all of you to share your feelings and stories after viewing our commercials. I’ve seen so many of you responded actively to “Walk & Talk”, the global campaign that was jointly kick started by Asia CEO Gordon Watson and Group Chief Human Resources Officer Karima Silvent, and I wish to see more of you joining in, in the hope that you are empowered with endless energy with whoever that accompany you in your journey.

I am very proud that our company got recognized by the industry with two high profile awards: “Most Innovative Company Award” via the 10th China Finance Summit and “Outstanding Health Enterprise” through the 3rd Asian-Pacific Insurtech International Summit.

This has perfectly showed that our hard work and efforts throughout this transformation journey to pivot our company from a mono-liner to a multi-liner with a focus on health have paid off. Now I am more than confident that together, we are sure to be soaring to success!

Attending International Forum for China Impact Investing Gala Dinner

7月16日,陆家嘴星光璀璨,应中国金融普惠研究院(CAFI)院长贝多广先生的邀请,我很荣幸代表安盛天平出席了中国影响力投资国际论坛(IFCII)的晚宴,席间聆听了诺贝尔和平奖得主穆罕默德·尤努斯(Muhammad Yunus)的分享,也与工行前董事长姜建清先生等在内的业界嘉宾交流了对影响力投资的见解。正如安盛品牌使命“守护生命之本,践行人类进步”所言,金融机构对推动全球可持续发展责无旁贷。

在下午的论坛上,我们集团董事会主席德尼 杜威先生远程分享了他的真知灼见,“在安盛看来,投资不仅是一桩生意,更是一种责任。早在 2015 年,安盛就率先成为撤出煤炭领域的投资者之一,并将投资方向侧重于气候变化、生物多样性、金融普惠、医疗保健和优质教育等多个关系到全球可持续发展,人类福祉的领域。安盛的投资在全球范围内产生了深远影响,累计为近 300 万个家庭提供了清洁能源,为 1 亿人提供了普惠金融产品,兴建了 57 个医疗设施,惠及 400 万学生,减排二氧化碳 6400 万吨,节约用水 42200 吨,已经成为实现联合国可持续发展目标的重要举措之一。”

在全球、在中国,安盛初心不改,致敬未来。

On July the 16th, invited by Chairman of the Chinese Academy of Financial Inclusion (CAFI), Duoguang BEI, I attended the gala dinner of International Forum for China Impact Investing (IFCII), which was a new landmark summit on the topic. Our Group Board Chairman, Denis DUVERNE, shared his insights on Impact Measurement and Management via a virtual panel in the afternoon.

I strongly believe, as our brand purpose “Act for Human Progress by protecting what Matters” illustrated, that insurers should take up societal responsibilities and spare no effort to help the communities by making financial products and services more affordable and accessible. Here in China, we aim to continue our trials and efforts in unleashing the capital for good, to provide a mechanism that helps mitigate personal and enterprise-related risks so as to contribute to improve livelihoods and sustained development.

7月15日,我受邀参加了2021上海国际金融中心专家咨询委员会议召开,出席嘉宾有中国人民银行前行长周小川上海市长龚正等政府代表。安盛集团董事长德尼·杜威先生以委员身份发表了在线演讲。这是继6月份的陆家嘴论坛之后,安盛集团再次作为全球保险行业的代表在中国金融业顶级峰会中发表观点。

尤其令我自豪的是,安盛是十家世界级机构中唯一受邀的保险公司。正如杜威董事长所说,“安盛能够通过很多重大举措,包括绿色投资、健康险领域的惠民项目等等,为上海成为领先的气候融资中心添砖加瓦。” 能够亲身见证并积极参与上海建设国际金融中心,是我们的荣幸,也是我们的责任。

I was very honored to attend the Shanghai International Financial Advisory Council (SIFAC) meeting on July the 15th.Our board chairman, Denis Duverne, was also invited to give a virtual speech as a member of SIFAC. The meeting was also joined by Xiaochuan Zhou, the former Governor of the People’s Bank of China and Zheng Gong, the Mayor of Shanghai.

I was very proud that AXA is the only insurance company invited among the ten world-class institutions. I believe, as Mr. Duverne said, AXA will help contribute in Shanghai’s becoming a leading center for climate finance, with many of our great initiatives, including green investments, and health insurance schemes built as public-private partnerships.

在法国驻上海总领事Benoit Guidee先生的盛情邀请下,我非常荣幸地出席了7月14日在总领事官邸举行的法国国庆日活动。对于中法文化爱好者来说,这是一个无比美妙的夜晚。高朋满座、嘉宾云集,畅谈中法友谊和文化交流之际,大家对美好繁荣的未来充满了希望。

在同一天,20位安盛同仁及经销商伙伴应邀出席了在北京法国大使馆举行的法国国庆日活动,进一步加强了双方的合作关系。我相信,交流是增进了解和巩固关系的不二法门,在两国有识之士的共同努力下,我们可以优势互补,共同面对挑战,实现双赢。

I was very delighted to have celebrated the French National Holiday on July 14 thanks to Mr. Benoit Guidee, French consulate general in Shanghai’s invitation.

It was a wonderful night for lovers’ of French and Chinese culture, for a spectacular evening of celebration at the consulate general’s residence, with amazing exchange on the Sino-French friendship and the prosperous future we will have.

At this occasion, AXA was also invited to attend the festival at French Embassy, joined by 20 colleagues and distributors in Beijing to further maintain and strengthen the relationship. I believe that by working together with our friends in France, we can complement each other with our own advantages, so as to seek a win-win situation in face of challenges.

在以往的认知里,我们或许认为人力资源就是做招聘、福利、持之以恒的员工教育等等。其实,他们还负责企业文化建设,包括招聘什么样的人才,工资几何,制定员工福利,以及优化工作架构。这些因素很大程度决定了我们是否享受现在的工作。也希望大家在工作中都是满意、开心的!

You may think that HR professionals do all the hiring, benefits, continuing education, etc. However, they are also responsible for creating the culture, who we choose to hire, how we compensate people, what benefits we offer, and how work is structured, all of it factors into whether or not we enjoy where we work. And hope we all enjoy our work here!
