Antoine Gosset-Grainville, Chairman of AXA Group, delivers speech on “Digital Economy and Financial Services” at the Beijing Financial Street Forum
On November 22, AXA’s Chairman Antoine Gosset-Grainville spoke on behalf of the company at the Beijing Financial Street Forum through a pre-recorded speech from Paris on the theme of “Digital Economy and Financial Services”. The meeting invited representatives from financial institutions crucial for global infrastructure to share practical experience and development strategies for the real economy and accelerating digital transformation.
In his speech, Granville paid high attention to digital transformation and regarded it as an important part of AXA’s future insurance strategy. An insurance company does not only manage risk, but also helps prevent it, he said, and will do so mainly through data and digital transformation. Looking ahead, insurers have a huge opportunity to harness the potential of digitalization. China is leading in terms of digital development, and the Chinese insurance industry has been one of the pioneers in utilizing digital technology on a large scale and has already made a lot of innovations.
“Specifically, if we take the example of climate, with the risk of climate change heavily increasing the frequency and severity of natural catastrophes, it was important for us as an insurer to take action. Therefore we are heavily committed to increasing green business solutions (with an ambition to increase the gross written premiums on Green Business solutions to EUR 1.3bn by 2023) and working on developing solutions such as Parametric insurance via our dedicated entity AXA Climate, which leverages satellite data to automatically trigger payments in the case of droughts or heavy flooding. But we are also going beyond that and leveraging this climate data to help advise our clients on how they can adapt to these growing risks.”
“Historically the know-how and expertise of insurers have always been based on our ability to leverage information in a responsible way to understand and assess different risks with relevance. The increasing digitalization of our economies will increase the amount of information available (e.g. with new data potentially coming from satellites, drones, sensors and connected objects, etc.). Ever more powerful tools, starting with the Cloud or AI, will allow insurers to leverage the potential of these data sets to protect our clients from the risks they face and further develop our expertise in risk prevention, it is a real opportunity for us.”
